Many of my pursuits have been an expression of my faith in the place of practical idealism in the public sphere. Indeed, it has always been my conviction that public service is the only secular reply to the yearning each of us feels to be part of something greater than ourselves, to live life in pursuit of aspirations more noble than the mere satisfaction of animal appetites. Accordingly, through my web site, I hope to build bridges of ideas and ideals across distance and region to others who share a desire to advance Canada's national interest. Please take a moment to offer me the benefit of your views and constructive criticisms on my writings, and perhaps collaborate on some of my projects if you are so inclined. I know that it takes courage to be an idealist in a cynical world, to hold fast to our ideals even as we are being stripped of our illusions. Yet, I also know that practical idealists stand ready to do what is right not in spite of the difficulty, but precisely because of the difficulty, for it is only through the exercise of courage that we show ourselves worthy of our country's name. I hope that you will enjoy your visit to my web site, and that if it finds favour with you, we may have the chance to work together.
Special Note for 11 April 2008: If you are looking for anyone named "Akash Maharaj" (note the single "a" in "Akash" as distinct from the double "aa" in my name "Akaash"), I am afraid you have come to the wrong web site. Still, I hope you enjoy your visit! |
